Michigan State Police HQ Taking
Shape Downtown

Lansing State Journal, Susan Vela, September 20, 2008 - Construction of the new
Michigan State Police headquarters in downtown Lansing is well ahead of schedule,
according to Joel Ferguson, one of the developers.

"The building is looking good, isn't it?" Ferguson said Friday. "We'll have the
building ready next September or October. We'll be ready."

Partnering with Gary Granger, Ferguson said he hopes that the building's exterior
will be complete by the winter. Then interior work such as electrical tasks, flooring
and carpeting will get underway.

For now, walls for the five-floor structure encompassing approximately 150,000 square
feet continue to go up. And, around noon Friday, workers with hard hats could be
seen reviewing completed work from inside the building.

"You're seeing the shell right now," Ferguson said.

The $39 million project at the corner of Grand Avenue and Kalamazoo Street is
expected to create 540 construction jobs.

Clyde Welch, a Delhi Township resident and CATA employee, took a break from
his job Friday to check out the construction.

"It looks pretty good," he said.

Developers broke ground for the new Michigan State Police headquarters in early 2008.

Upon completion, the building will house about 560 state police employees who are
moving from the Harrison Road headquarters in East Lansing, the Collins Road
facility and the State Secondary Complex.
