Metro Health Village Adds Significant New Tenants, Buildings
Wyoming, Michigan, October 23, 2006 – Metro Health and its development partner,
The Granger Group, today will announce significant new construction projects and
development commitments for Metro Health Village. These projects will bring over
200,000 square feet of new medical, office, retail and residential space to the 170-acre
Village being built around the new Metro Health Hospital, which is slated to open in
fall 2007.
Representatives from The Granger Group, Metro Health, and others associated with the
various projects will gather today at 11:00 a.m., at the Village, to launch this next wave
of construction projects with a groundbreaking ceremony for the professional office
building adjacent to the new Metro Health Hospital. The 3-story, 65,000-square-foot
building features the convenience of a direct connection to the hospital and will become
home to a variety of physicians, as well as hospital offices. The hospital’s clinical
laboratory and Wound Care Center will also be in this structure. It is just one of
several buildings commencing construction in coming weeks.
During the proceedings, The Granger Group also will announce the launch of the
Village’s first building that blends retail and residential construction. The new retail/loft
spaces will be located on the north side of Main Street, near the main entrance of the
Village. The building will have retail suites at street level and upscale, loft-style residential
units on the second floor. The loft units, available for either lease or sale, will range from
800 square feet to 2,500 square feet and offer one, two or three bedroom options, as well
as private entrances and covered parking. Construction will begin next month; the first
12 residential units will become available for occupancy during the summer of 2007.
The Granger Group’s first medical-retail building will also break ground in November.
Consisting of 12,000 square feet, this facility will house the audiology services of
Kaczmarski Hearing, as well as a pharmacy operated by Village Pharmacy. Other
tenants currently in the lease finalization process for this
building include both a durable
medical goods supplier and an ophthalmology services provider. The medical-retail
facilities will consist of five suites under a common roof located directly across from the
hospital’s main entrance. The Granger Group is currently accepting commitments from
other medical retailers for the 15% percent of the building still available for lease.
Ground will soon be broken on two additional buildings this fall. One is a 25,000 square
foot office building on the north side of the Village that will serve as the new headquarters
for Michigan Pain Consultants. Next to this building, an 80,000 square foot structure is
ready to begin construction at the same time. It is being built by a consortium of investors,
led by Grand Valley Internal Medicine Specialists, with support from Metropolitan
Hospitalists Group. This facility will also house the hospital’s endoscopy service and sleep
lab. Locating these services in a building separate from the hospital will make access easier
for patients and their families. Adjacent parking will add to the convenience.
These projects join Starbucks Coffee Company and the physicians of Michigan OB/GYN,
the first retail and medical tenants to open their doors at Metro Health Village. Both
celebrated their grand openings in early October.
Gary Granger, president and CEO of The Granger Group, noted, “We are pleased to be
involved in the most exciting West Michigan development project because of the
innovation expressed by our partners at Metro and the cooperation that we’ve
received from the retail community.
“Our vision for the Metro Health Village has always been to create a community focused
on providing convenient, comprehensive health care related services,” said Mike Faas,
president and CEO of Metro Health. “It’s apparent from what we have announced here
today that the vision of blending a hospital with office, retail and residential facilities, is
going well. We are excited to be where we are today, primarily because of where it will
take us tomorrow. Metro Health aims to be the healthcare destination of choice in West
Michigan. We are progressing down that path because of the power of partnering.”
“Interest from both national retailers and local health care providers remains strong,
and we are very pleased with the response and commitments we have received to date,”
said Granger. “Things are really coming together, and we look forward to announcing
additional tenants in the near future.”
