MarketPlace Honored with Exemplary Sustainable Design Award
Zeeland, Michigan, October 13, 2004 - The Granger Group's MarketPlace facility was
presented with an Exemplary Sustainable Building Award today by the Sustainable
Buildings Industry Council (SBIC). The SBIC is an independent, nonprofit organization
whose mission is to advance the design, affordability, energy performance, and
environmental soundness of America's homes and buildings.
The SBIC bestowed the award at its annual FORUM event, titled Cents and
Sustainability: The Ripple Effects of Integrated Design, held at the American Institute
of Architects headquarters in Washington, DC. The Exemplary Sustainable Building
Award recognizes institutional, residential, and government buildings that demonstrate
the successful application of the whole building design approach. With a focus on the
integration of sustainability and cost-effectiveness, projects were recognized as providing
valuable lessons to learn from, fostering the movement towards more sustainable buildings.
Developed exclusively as a leased facility for Herman Miller, the MarketPlace is a Gold-
level, U.S. Green Building Council LEED Certified building. Created as a partnership
between developer and client, and constructed at a mere $89 per square foot, the
MarketPlace has delivered documented operational cost savings to the client of 29%
below traditional leased space, and stands in testament to The Granger Group's
Commitment to green design.
