
Beacon Hill at Eastgate Aquires Metro Health Hospital Site
Grand Rapids, Michigan, May 7, 2008 - Beacon Hill at Eastgate and The Granger
Group announce the formal transfer of the former Metro Health Hospital site at 1919
Boston, SE, to Beacon Hill at Eastgate for the purposes of building a state-of-the-art
continuing care retirement community (CCRC).
Effective May 7, the sale places the property in control of the non-profit organization
formerly known as Michigan Christian Home. Beacon Hill at Eastgate anticipates the
start of construction this summer, after plans are finalized and financing is obtained.
The Granger Group, a Grand Rapids area developer facilitating the redevelopment of
the site, has completed demolition of the old Metro Hospital and is in the final stages
of readying the site for construction.
In 2003, The Granger Group sought and received approval for Renaissance Zone
designation, with the intent of developing 200+ brownstone condominiums. Upon
reviewing the plans for Beacon Hill at Eastgate, the developer decided that the CCRC
offered the highest and best use for the land in service to the community as a whole. Construction will take approximately 18 months, and Beacon Hill at Eastgate is expected
to open in the spring of 2010. Pre-sales of the 114 apartment homes have gone well with
close to 60 percent already reserved.
